The drought conditions affecting Southern California has made flower watching a disappointing pastime. Many of the volunteers who regularly submit reports have taken a break in which to enjoy the other beautiful features of the Santa Monica Mountains. However, if you look closely and diligently, many of our usual summer flowers can still be found, if in greatly reduced numbers.

On the other hand, the lull in the flowers has allowed us to catch up on a big backlog of flower photos. Consequently, the Photo Gallery just reached a significant milestone this past weekend: the 500^th wildflower species was added.
