More than any other reason, it is making the site accessible to everyone that has led us to abandon the original version of the site. We made efforts years ago to make the flower web site more accessible, but we must admit, in hindsight, that we did not succeed very well. This is partly because everyone's understanding of accessibility has changed significantly over time. The other huge change was the invention of the smartphone. We created the Mobile version of the site in response to that, and that is where most of our development effort has gone since then. We have worked hard to make the Mobile version of the flower web site friendly to everyone. On the other hand, many of the features of the original version do not translate well to an accessible version, and attempting to do so would simply yield a site very similar to the Mobile version. Why bother fixing the original version if the two sites converge to the point of being indistinguishable? So, we retain the old site, with its quirks and kinks, but now try to steer people away from it. Except for those quirks it has little to offer that the more accessible site does not provide. Indeed, people were telling us a decade ago that they rarely bothered to visit the original version.
